Rab Richards, after returning to Scotland via the USA, set up Jaeger System Concrete Ltd in Glasgow in December 1935. The "Tower of Empire" was design by Paisley Architect Thomas S Tait, also known as "Tait's Tower", it was 300 ft (91m) high! In July 1939 it was demolished as it could have guided German bombers to Glasgow, the only part remaining today is the foundation, less than one foot beneath the soil! (See below) As it's now the 81st Anniversary year of its construction, and if the original plans are still available, perhaps the "Tower" could be re-built? |
